For 20 years we have been going back and forth on to build or not to build and extend Route 53 in Northern Illinois. Should there be an advisory vote to gauge the public opinion on extending Route 53? The Lake County Board will decide soon if they will have a vote.
The state road would extend from where it stops now near Long Grove in Lake County Illinois at Lake Cook road and extend to Grayslake. Which is one mile east of my home in Deer Park. There are some supporters and some totally against it. Issues being that we need the road to relieve congestion on roads in Lake County to the pollution it would create and the damage to environmentally sensitive land. Long Grove officials and residents of homes in Long Grove have been on record against extending Route 53 for years. Joining them are other residents of other towns and some residents and towns area for it.
I lived in Mundelein for years in Long Meadow Subdivision which is adjacent to the proposed 53 route. There was a negative issue 80% of the time when I sold or showed homes along the proposed route. It definitely effected the value of all the homes considered for sale that I encountered. The towns that I saw most effected were the towns and homes along the corridor which there are proposed maps at local village offices. Some of the homes are in Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove, Kildeer, Mundelein and Long Grove. Some of the subdivisions are Long Meadow & Long Meadow Estates in Mundelein, Cambridge Country in Mundelein, Cambridge Countryside in Mundelein, Rambling Hills in Hawthorn Woods, Hawthorn Grove Subdivision, Indian Creek Estates Subdivision, Woodland Estates Subdivision, Hawthorn Knolls Subdivision. In Kildeer and Long Grove there are many more subdivisions along the route.
I can see both sides of it. And why both sides beleive so strongly thier views.
The last maps my real estate team copied were at the Hawthorn Woods Village hall, but if you look online there are plenty out there. And we will see if there is a vote in our near future.

Creating roads ultimately creates other types of commerce so it is probably more than just a road. Would the Lake County residents possibly received compensation for the decline in values? I know we are facing something similar in the Fishers Real Estate market with a light rail system cutting through the main artery of town. It is only proposed and we are getting comments about it. Keep us posted. January 21, 2009 at 11:55 am
